Tech Da House
My love for music happened by a happy accident. I was off school sick for a week when I was 7 or 8 and nothing to do all day other than lay in bed and listen to the radio. After that I was hooked and spent most Sunday evenings with my finger hovering over the record button trying to catch as little of the dj talking as possible! By my early teens I was into hip hop and rap enjoying the sounds of Public Enemy, Stetsasonic and De La Soul. This phase however did not last long as by the time I was 16 UK rave culture was in full swing and I started attending raves and clubs in and around London. I got my first set of decks in 1994 just as the scene was splitting into 2 and I went down the happy hardcore route for a few years. These days I am mainly into tech house which I have Mr C of The Shamen to thank for. Again by accident I heard his show on Kiss Fm in the late 90s and was immediately hooked on what he described as “sophisticated house”. Today I mostly use cd decks for convenience and keeping costs down, but still buy the odd bit of vinyl when I can. Like alot of people music has got me through some tough times and I don’t know where I’d be without it.
