In 1982 formed a number of bands disillusioned with the “punk scene” which went from a movement of being yourself to be like everyone else eft Hull and formed a band called Void an interest in horror films and The Damned became part of what was to be later referred to as the Gothic scene which meant thrashing guitars and filling small clubs with dry ice and strobes.
Worked alongside those who famously became The Sisters of Mercy.
1985 sick of the northern club scene that always ended in fights and me beaten up, left South to “the Smoke” . I was encouraged to go to Shoom, Danny Ramplings club which also seemed to be full of dry ice and strobes but a whole different genre of music and no one was interested in fighting. I was involved in a number Djing and organising raves in the Surrey area; we did not talk genre we just bought vinyl that would sound good on the sound systems built. The early 90’s and legal restrictions meant the outdoor party was defunct and so looked to the London club scene again.
Managed to get on late playing for Ultimate Bass at Velvet Underground meeting and and bossed about by Carl Cox I trawled the club scene a chance meeting at Trade led to a great friendship with Toni De Vit and a stint at Ministry of Sound and on with Open All Hours. That got me in the back door to play at The Cross for Gatecrasher and Bagley Studios
Hit the Psy-trance scene in Rotterdam and Belgium working alongside Cyberdog. A genre I still love.
1996-1998 formed Fresh. The night was designed to get new unheard of talent in top London clubs namely The Complex, Islington and Leisure Lounge Holborn Circus. The highlight was a night that had all musical genres at a Free New Year Party at the Leisure Lounge in 1998.
Like many on the scene -crashed and I walked away from it for 16 years. 3 years ago when invited to a party with a massive sound system and no sober Djs took to the decks at 10.30pm and walked off at 5.30am – I was back (well once I realised Technics did not make decks anymore)
It explains the name some don’t enough – Scream@Demons
